September 2006 was a memorable month for me. It was the month I decided to move from South Carolina to Florida.
I desperately needed to make a change. I had a good job where I was, but there was no room for advancement. I applied for jobs at other locations and received rejection letters soon after. I had one more option. I applied for the job and I was to hear back from them by a certain day. The day came and went, and I did not hear from them. I thought to myself, I will give them one more week. If I do not hear from them, then I will put my two weeks in and finally make the move to Orlando, Florida.
A week went by with no response. The next day I gave my supervisor my two weeks’ notice and began to make plans to move to Florida. Two days, later I received a phone call from the job I applied for. They chose me. I thanked them and politely refused the position. I did not stop to weigh my options. Their decision to hire me did not change my mind about moving. The deciding factor was not the job, it was the timeframe of their response. I knew if I did not go through with my decision to leave, I would never do it.
There are changes that you have been thinking about making, but you keep putting it off. I want to encourage you to do them. Make a decision to go through with it. Things will always come up, but do not let them deter you. This is the season for change. Do not miss your opportunity. Make this your September to remember. -SAF-
