At The Feet Of Jesus

By Pastor Shirley

Luke 10 38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

The point of this story isn’t that Mary was right and Martha was wrong. What Martha was doing was honorable and right. She may have begun the process with a great heart of thanksgiving and somehow progressed to the point of bitterness and a bit of outrage.

Lately, I have felt more like Martha than Mary. We are getting ready to launch a brand new program for Purpose! Ministries (and so many other wonderful things that I can’t wait to share!) that what began with a heart of thanksgiving and willingness was starting to make a turn towards… well, the complete opposite.

I heard a song today that brought this passage to mind. It brought things back to perspective, that even though there are SO many things to do, I can’t lose sight of what of what is important. These programs are important, but keeping my attitude right in preparing them is more important. The only way to do that, is to be at the feet of Jesus.
