Be Sober, Be Vigilant

By Pastor Shirley Flores

I Peter 5:7-11, 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

This passage reminds us that we will face trials as believers. Do not be surprised about it, expect it. I will not say that all trials are caused by Satan, the enemy, because that is not the case. However, he will use an ongoing situation to cause more obstacles and make it even harder for you to overcome.

Satan and his demons are NOT like God. They do not know everything. They do not know your future and they do not know the end result for you. They make it seem like they know everything because they do stake outs. They gather information about you to see what they can use against you in the future, but if they see an opportunity, they will take it.

When the enemy attacks, stay calm. Stand firm in your faith in Christ Jesus and resist him. Come against him and his minions with the word of God. He will isolate you and make you think you are the only one going through it. You are not alone. Remember, he is a liar and a thief. It may take a few minutes or it may take a few days. However long it lasts, stand firm in faith. Do not give in. As you continue to stand in faith, by the grace of God through Jesus Christ, you will be what you were meant to be: established, strengthened, and settled. -SAF-
