The author of Hebrews had reached a place in his teaching concerning Jesus that he wanted to expand upon. It concerned the Melchisedekian priesthood.
But read what he says to his readers concerning his inability to continue on the topic.
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Hebrews 5:10-14.
There are so many long time Christians today that are a bunch of babies. And frankly, I am a little tired of it.
In the same book the writer admonishes us concerning the gathering of believers as a church body on an ongoing basis, at least once a week as that is the usual and customary appointed time.
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:25.
Preachers should not have to harp on this so much. Bosses do not have to remind employees to not forget to come to work tomorrow as they clock out. People know if they don’t show up consecutively they will be fired. Most do not want that so there they are again on the morrow.
I guess people consider the church less important and cannot even maintain a consistent attendance at church just once a week.
In grade school I remember teachers making some nuisance kids do something that today is probably not allowed lest the teacher damage some unruly kid’s psyche or traumatize him for life. Yeah I used the pronoun him. It’s either a him or a her. So be traumatized, I really don’t care. But I digress.
Here is what I had to do more than once. Write a sentence a hundred times pledging to not repeat an offensive behavior.
Today as a Pastor I would like to make Christians write:
I will not miss church anymore.
I will not miss church anymore.
I will not miss church anymore.
I will not miss church anymore.
I will not miss church anymore.
I will not miss church anymore.
I will not miss church anymore.
That is grade school stuff. But unfortunately that is where a lot of
“believers” are today.
I have a lot of teaching to share and a lot of preaching to bring forth. But what’s the point. People aren’t present to receive it and if they were they would be fidgeting after fifteen minutes.
There is a day approaching. Many will not be ready for it.
And it ain’t my fault. -PJF-
