“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9.

The possibility of fainting exists.

The Greek word translated faint is eklyō. It is pronounced ek-lü'-ō.

It means:

To have one's strength relaxed, to be enfeebled through exhaustion, to grow weak, grow weary, be tired out

To despond, become faint hearted.

Long term well doing can cause one to get tired. It is especially wearying when the well doer sees no immediate results or even a noticeable change over a longer season. Sometimes, there seems to be no evidence of progress for an interminable period of time.

That can lead to many a well-meaning saint to grow weary.

The apostolic admonition is to not succumb to exhaustion.

Well doing is seed planting. And sowing always produces a reaping. Some seeds produce fruit quicker than others. Compare a tomato seed to an apple seed.

Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) probably never ate an apple from many of the seeds he planted. But those trees grew and provided fruit for hundreds after him. For over fifty years he traveled alone and always carried a leather bag filled with apple seeds he collected for free from cider mills. He made a business out of apple seeds. He was also very religious and preached to people along the way. His favorite book was his Bible. He never grew weary in well doing.

We have a divine promise. In due season we shall reap, if we faint not. -PJF-
