Encourage and Leave

By Pastor Shirley Flores

"After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and encouraged them. Then they left." Acts 16:40 (NIV)

After Paul and Silas had been beaten, battered, and publicly humiliated they were released from their cell and what did they do? The Bible says they went to the house where they were staying, gathered the believers together and encouraged them. It didn't say they complained or spoke evil against the government there; it said they encouraged the brothers and then they left.

If Paul and Silas ever had a moment where they could complain and fight the system it was right then. They weren't given a fair trial. They were deemed guilty before anyone had a chance to hear their side of the story. Vindication was theirs for the taking... but instead they chose to encourage the believers and leave.

The situations you are facing today may or may not be as severe as Paul and Silas; however the outcome can still be the same. Instead of speaking negatively about your circumstances speak words of encouragement. You never know what situation your audience is in and they might need positive words to help get them through their obstacles.

I urge you to be a light to yourself and others. Do as Paul and Silas did, encourage the people and leave it alone. –SAF-
