In prayer recently I heard the word expunge. Although I had a good idea what the word meant I decided to research it believing it was a word from the Lord. As I studied the word expunge I knew I had to share it on the program.
Someone out there needs to understand the word expunge.
Expunge means to erase or remove completely (something unwanted or unpleasant).
In the common law legal system, an expungement proceeding is a type of lawsuit in which a first time offender of a prior criminal conviction seeks that the records of that earlier process be sealed, thereby making the records unavailable through the State or Federal repositories. If successful, the records are said to be "expunged."
Black's Law Dictionary defines "expungement of record" as the "Process by which record of criminal conviction is destroyed or sealed from the state or Federal repository."
While expungement deals with an underlying criminal record, it is a civil action in which the subject is the petitioner or plaintiff asking a court to declare that the records be expunged.
A very real distinction exists between an expungement and a pardon. When an expungement is granted, the person whose record is expunged may, for most purposes, treat the event as if it never occurred. A pardon (also called "executive clemency") does not "erase" the event; rather, it constitutes forgiveness.
The Bible declares in 1 John 1:9:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
In Romans 5:1 and 2 the Scriptures state:
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Then in verses 8 and 9 it continues:
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Justification is the declared purpose of God to regard and treat those sinners who believe in Jesus Christ as if they had not sinned, on the ground of the merits of the Savior.
Our sinful record is thereby expunged.
In addition, I read in Romans 8:30
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
So now let’s look at this again. The believer has been forgiven. He has also been justified. By this act of God he has been declared righteous. He now stands as if he had never sinned. There is no trace of his criminal past. That has been expunged. And if that were not enough in Romans 8:30 where we just read, it says that God has gone one step further.
See, the legal system can only go as far as expunging our rap sheet. Jesus does that and then he also glorifies us!
What does it mean to be glorified?
He fills us with His glory. The Holy Spirit comes and powerfully inhabits us. The glory of the Lord explodes within us. The whole earth is full of his glory because we are on it. We carry His glory.
Let us discontinue our mediocre Christian experience.
Sir I want to tell you today that all your past is erased, deleted, expunged. Lady, your sins are way behind you and far from you as the east is from the west.
And beside that you have been glorified. Put in a special and elevated position by virtue of the glory of God in you. Run down to this altar right now and appropriate the gift of God. Be filled with the Holy Ghost, walk in His glory. You are not less than. You are more than. More than a conqueror through Him that loved you!
His glory is coming to you now. -PJF-
