Go to the Source

By Pastor Shirley Flores

One thing that has been reinforced in me during this pandemic, is the value of being informed. Today we have many ways to obtain information. We have news channels, social media, podcasts, newspapers, and magazines. There is no excuse to be in the dark about anything these days. Are these outlets credible? Can we trust them to provide information that would help us make the best decisions?

The same could be asked about sermons that are being preached. Almost every church in the United States of America has gone to streaming their sermons live on social media. So many sermons, so many pastors, so many churches… how do we know that they are speaking the truth? Again, can we trust them to provide information that would help us make the best decisions?

The answer to both situations is simple: you go to the source. If you want to know if a preacher is preaching truth, go to the source. If you want to know if a reporter (or a meme on social media) is reporting actual news and not their opinion, go to the source.

Have your Bible when you watch the preacher on TV. Read through the verses yourself and all other verses he or she may use to illustrate a point. Watch the actual press conferences or interviews to see and hear it for yourself. Make your own judgements. You cannot rely on someone else’s interpretation of what was said. We are living in critical times, both in the natural and the spiritual, and we cannot afford to be misled.
