What a wonderful opportunity to begin again. Even we who are born again need at times a chance to begin again.
In our journey with God we grow weary in the great fight of faith. Contrary winds wear out the saint as we battle to keep the boat of life a float. The business of survival distracts us from the spiritual exercises necessary for our continued experience with God. People interlope into our path and cause us to get off track, even sending us in another direction. Ahhh, if we could just start over again. We can.
The slate has been wiped clean. The past has been put behind us. The failures have taught us a lesson. It is a new day. A new year.
Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17b. That is not a verse only for the new believer in Christ. That is a promise for the veteran Christian that God can at any time deal with the old stuff and bring us into newness of life.
When God wanted to take Israel out of their four hundred years of servitude in Egypt he gave them a new year.
This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Exodus 12:2.
Happy New Year, He said. Time to start over.
Today the message is repeated to us. To You. Forgive others, forgive yourself, forget the past. Reset.
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? Isaiah 43:18,19a. -PJF-
