34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:34-40.
Inasmuch is an interesting compound word. The dictionary says it means: in view of the fact that; seeing that; since. insofar as; to such a degree as. It is usually followed by the word as.
Jesus places himself with the neediest of people and declares if we have ministered to the needs of the these, it is equivalent to having ministered unto him.
Praise, worship, prayer, are not the only ways to minister unto the King. These are offerings we present to him. Finding the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the incarcerated, and employing ourselves to provide what will alleviate the suffering of these, actually equates to true ministry unto the Lord.
The church spends much time and effort in discovering and utilizing the best talent and then affords them a beautiful platform to shine and assist the attendees to hopefully bring some delight to Jesus with music and song.
Alarmingly, Jesus does not mention these exercises in what He considers requirements to be placed at His right hand and inherit His eternal kingdom. Rather He directs us outside the four walls into a destitute environment to represent Him to those who otherwise would not know of Him.
That sure messes up my religious thinking.
Purpose! Ministries for a long time has engaged in some aspects of all these significant things Jesus has called the church to do.
Without listing the activities we have been and are currently involved in, we have made an attempt, feeble as it may be, to fulfill this other facet of the Great Commission.
This we have done and not left the other undone. The other being the ministry of the church as concerns worship, praise, preaching, prayer, and etc.
The only limitation we have had to deal with is the lack of financial backing necessary for the carrying out of a fuller repertoire of ministry to Jesus in regard to His little ones.
