My High Priest
I do not just need a guy in a robe. I require someone of superior dimensions.
My condition is such that supernatural assistance is the only remedy. In my
devotional reading today I came across such a one.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16.
Jesus is not as any earthly priest. He is great and he is high. According to the English definition of great, He has achieved importance and distinction. He is unusual in degree and power. The word in the Greek is megas. Sound familiar? The megachurch better be promoting a mega priest not the current senior pastor. They come and go. Jesus abideth forever. The Greek definition refers to persons, eminent for ability, virtue, authority, power.
He is high. Of elevated position. The title high priest is reserved for the chief priest in the Judaic system. It was lawful for him to perform the common duties of the priesthood; but his chief duty was, once a year on the day of atonement, to enter the Holy of holies (from which the other priests were excluded) and offer sacrifice for his own sins and the sins of the people (Leviticus 16; Hebrews 9:7, 25).
It is used of Christ because by undergoing a bloody death he offered himself as an expiatory sacrifice to God, and has entered into the heavenly sanctuary where he continually intercedes on our behalf.
Me thinks He meets my requirements already.
One of the things that really struck me that makes Jesus unique is the fact that He is passed into the heavens. He defied gravity. SpaceX and NASA have nothing on Him. He needed no booster rockets. And in His second coming, He is going to land on His target, the Mount of Olives.
The NKJV says, He has passed through the heavens. Passed into the heavens, passed through the heavens. On his way there He was not obstructed by any planets or meteors, or stars. They moved aside and praised Him as He passed by. Well, Glory!
Because of our great high priest then, we should go forward in our faith. We do not quit. We do not renounce. Let us hold fast our profession. Do not change your testimony. What you have confessed for years remains true. Do not destroy it now.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities….
Here I quote the NKJV. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses…. Needs no Greek. He knows what we feel and he is sympathetic. He listens when we tell Him and He is one who truly understands. Talk to Him. Like the old song says, I must tell Jesus all of my troubles.
Moreover, He is of a victorious nature. But was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
So, as we go forward, not in sinless perfection, the sinless One provides the remedy for our condition.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
As necessary, approach the place where grace rules. You will obtain mercy and find grace. Mercy prevents what you deserve. Grace extends what you do not deserve. There is help in time of need. Get it. Do not be defeated. Win. Amazing! -PJF-
And now a word from our Pastor…
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
This verse gets ignored because of life’s struggles and our own flesh.
I am reminded of a restaurant I went to years ago with some friends. The food was really good and decently priced, which is why my friends loved going there. The tables were mismatched and had duct tape on them. The chairs were wobbly and made noises every time some one sat in them. The floors were sticky and the bathroom… let’s just say it's better to wait and go elsewhere.
A few years later my husband and I drove by the building, but it had a new name and declared, “under new management.” We decided to go in and see what the new management had done. The food was the same, still very good food, and the building was still the same. Same mismatched tables with duct tape and same wobbly, squeaky chairs. And yes, the same bathroom. The only thing that was changed was the name of the restaurant.
If you are a believer, you are under new management. It is no longer you, but Christ who lives within you (Galatians 2:20). The old you may have had mismatched tables with duct tape and wobbly chairs that squeaked. The new you is… brand new. You weren’t renovated, you were made new.
That is how we have to view ourselves when we get saved, because truly, that is what happened inside of you. Others should recognize a newness about you because Jesus Christ by way of the Holy Ghost has made you new. Read Galatians chapter 5 to see what you were a part of when you were without Christ. One of the wonderful things about the Holy Spirit working within us the fruit that is produced inside of us.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:22-24
The old you is gone and you are brand new. Enjoy the newness of who you are in Christ. -SAF

Worthy is the Lamb written by Darlene Joyce Zschech
Thank you for the cross, Lord
Thank you for the price You paid
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love You came
And gave amazing grace
Thank you for this love, Lord
Thank you for the nail pierced hands
Washed me in Your cleansing flow
Now all I know
Your forgiveness and embrace
Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious
High and lifted up
Jesus Son of God
The Darling of Heaven crucified
Worthy is the Lamb, Worthy is the Lamb
Psalm 121 – Look Up
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
If you have been looking down, it is time to look up.
Look up high even if you are not sure what you are to be looking for.
The Psalmist chose to look to the hills around Jerusalem.
We must choose to change a downward contemplation to an upward expectation.
Acknowledge your sufficient source. It is the Lord. He is the one who made heaven and earth. He is taking a personal interest in you.
The first thing he is doing is securing you. You don’t need to go into a frenzy and run here and there trying to find the answer. Stay in place. Be established in your faith. He will not suffer, or allow, your foot to be moved.
God has not gone to sleep on you. He is your ever vigilant keeper. Listen, he has been the keeper of Israel for millennia. From Abraham to today he has been awake over Israel. Imagine that. the same one who watches so diligently over that great nation, is the one who is watching over you. It is not just angels watching over you. It is the Lord himself. Glory!
Notice. He keepeth thee, he keepeth Israel, he is thy keeper. Hallelujah.
And he doesn’t need any coffee! Amen.
Nothing from above can hurt you, Nothing from below can damage you. Your soul is safe in him.
Confidently say with the Psalmist. My help comes from the Lord. Praise him.
Now, calmly go where you need to go. Move in peace. Travel safely.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Amen.
