Praying in the Spirit

Romans 8:26, 27 gives us some valuable insight into more effective prayer: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

First, the scripture poses the possibility that there will be times we will find ourselves praying about something about which we are not fully informed, or that we may not be sure what outcome we should be praying toward. The Greek of that word infirmity means: want of strength and capacity requisite to understand a thing.

Rather than feebly conclude with a trite, “Do your will Lord,” we can actually go deeper and avail ourselves of the mechanism whereby we can pray specifically in faith and expectation concerning a matter and actually pray according to the will of God.

This is one facet of praying in the Spirit; one that is unknown in the

church today, and rarely utilized. I believe this kind of praying is

particularly available to those baptized in the Holy Spirit with

operative tongues. These believers will be increasingly sensitive to the

Spirit and receptive to His intervention at such a deep level.

Groanings are not something that will be routinely heard in a prayer

meeting. Neither should the prayer meeting be completely void of

them. There must be a surrender to the Spirit, and religious decorum

will have to be suspended for public manifestation. Private prayer can

benefit much from this move of the Holy Spirit.

While the groanings are of an inarticulate kind, especially in native

language, at times there will be a conjunction with your prayer

language for added profitability.

Now, let us investigate what takes place at this depth of

communication.

Verse 27: And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind

of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according

to the will of God.

The groanings are the Spirit praying through you together with your

spirit. His prayer is a perfect prayer. And God the Father receives it as

such.

Watch the answer come to that thing you started praying about without

understanding the matter.

We will continue this study next week. -PJF-
