So What Do We Do Now?

Stay the course. Do not be distracted by current unrest around you. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Stay in tune with the Word of God, and continue to listen to the Holy Spirit. He will speak guidance and take you where he wants you.

Matthew 2:13 has an interesting revelation on Divine direction.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

Flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word.

God’s direction is usually not total. The first step is given. Flee into Egypt. That night, Joseph knew exactly what to do. The rest is unknown except that he is told he will get word when it is time for the next directive.

So take the first step and trust God to show you the rest. Follow the direction. Do not fear the unknown. God is there.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

That is a lesson for us today. While in obedience to the first step do the things you know to do, do the things that are accessible to you, and do not worry about the future. Embrace that place. Go back and read the first paragraph.

The length of the time in Egypt is not given. But while Joseph, Mary,

and Jesus are in Egypt, things were happening in Israel.

19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

Angels can cross national borders and find the people they are sent to. Today we have the Holy Spirit within us, and He will guide us into all truth wherever we are. He speaks to us. Listen.

Their nemesis Herod has died. The baby killer is dead. Time to move.

When God redirects us it is because circumstances are ready for our next step. Take it.

21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Ah, a little tweaking is required. Joseph, the protective father, did not want to risk returning to the place of the royal crime. God allowed for his concern. As a matter of fact God agreed with his concern. Joseph has his third dream. He turns to Nazareth, a safe place.

As we look at the completed narrative, we discover God’s care for detail. His guidance deals with all contingencies. And thrice the prophetic word is fulfilled. See verses 15, 17-18, 23.

So now, follow his direction. Go where He sends you.

You will be safe. -PJF-
