Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exodus 20:8
My siblings and I were involved in many activities. My sister played volleyball and was in orchestra. I was in the marching band and concert band. Two of my brothers played football, and my other brother was in marching band and in show choir. We were also involved in our home church. My brother, Setnick and I were in the choir, in youth leadership, and on the drama team. Needless to say, we kept our parents busy.
We could participate in anything we wanted as long as two conditions were met:
1. Nothing interfered with church on Sundays or Wednesdays.
2. Maintain at least a “C” average in all school subjects.
My parents, my mom especially, would not allow us to skip church for any reason, especially not for a secondary event or activity. She wanted us to honor God in all we did. My parents taught us that God was the source of every talent and gift that we have and in order for us to be blessed, we had to put God first.
My husband has the same mindset. Every opportunity that arises, we remember the sabbath day, in our case it’s Sunday. If any activity would take us away from our day of fellowship with the Lord and other believers, then we decline. We do not plan anything for Sundays because we want to be available. We want to see how God wants to direct us. We know that God is our source. When we honor God and put him first, he blesses us every time. --SAF--
