“14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.” I Kings 17:14-16
God told Elijah to go Zarephath where he met a woman gathering sticks. He asked her for some water and some bread. This woman was facing rough times. She did not have much. Her plan was to make the little bit of food she had, share it with her boy, and wait to die. When she told him these things, Elijah did not apologize and say never mind.
He told her to go ahead, but first make a cake for him, and bring it to him. Then go make one for her and her son. She did what Elijah instructed her to do and God supernaturally replenished the flour and the oil. It did not run out and it did not grow stale. They were able to eat fresh bread for many days. The little she had was not an obstacle. It was an opportunity for God to make supernatural provisions to fulfill his Word and sustain not only the man of God, but those involved as well.
The same is true today. -SAF-
