I don’t think this church will ever be the same again. It has truly become a house of prayer.
Jesus spoke about that in Matthew 21:12,13.
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Granted, the church today has generally not disintegrated into such disarray as had the temple of God. They had totally desecrated the place by their unlawful sacrificial offerings. The glory of the first Solomonic temple was nowhere evident in this newer version. The purpose God had established for his house had long been replaced with unholy activities.
Our current houses of worship fortunately, are well maintained and there is still an attempt at presenting the living God. What is called praise and worship is operative. Preachers still endeavor to proclaim the word of God. There is still a pursuit of God in varying degrees in our neighborhood houses of worship.
The one ingredient that has been subtly put aside is that for which Jesus spoke. Prayer.
It is time for the house of God to be restored to a place of prayer.
Isaiah 56:7 speaks to the matter:
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Jesus’ Father had personally designated the place to be a house of prayer. My house of prayer, he said.
No wonder Jesus acted the way he did. It was said of his response in John 2:17: And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
Restoration is imperative.
To that end, we are engaged. Ours is but a small part. We have been enlightened concerning the matter. Our zeal has increased. We will never be the same. -PJF-
