Jesus said in Matthew 18:18-20:
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
The Priesthood of the Believer grants the individual saint the authority to bind and loose with the guarantee of heaven’s response.
Let me interject here before I continue. The church is so far below what Jesus intended for it.
If that were not enough, Jesus establishes a broader authority for when two saints can lay aside their idiosyncrasies and join together in agreement over whatever needs to be remedied; “anything that they shall ask.”
This is in keeping with the Old Testament principle found in Deuteronomy 19:15b: At the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established. Paul certifies that for the New Testament in 2 Corinthians 13:1: In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.
This is significant for married couples, as much can be overcome simply by agreement. But it is not just operable in the conjugal setting. It is viable with any two believers who choose to practice it.
Now it is important to issue a caveat in regard to this promise. As my wife so aptly has brought out in her teaching on the topic, be careful who you agree with and on what you are agreeing. Do not agree concerning unknown requests people may want you to agree upon. For example, don’t let someone bring you into agreement concerning something they will not divulge. You may find out later you helped produce an unfavorable response Such is the power of agreement. Neither agree on anything your spiritual detector checks you on, a prayer maliciously against someone, and surely do not agree on anything which even borders on being unscriptural.
With those rules understood, there is vast opportunity to bring about desired spiritual results by the prayer of agreement.
The reason for this is that agreement in Jesus’ name brings Him on the scene. And when Jesus shows up, anything can happen. -PJF-
