Three Elements of Prayer

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Luke 11:9, 10.

Let us be clear about who gave this very precise directive concerning prayer. It was Jesus himself. In the preceding scriptures, his disciples had requested he teach them to pray. Jesus gave them what is commonly called “The Lord’s Prayer.” He continued the lesson with a story about a man whose friend came to him at midnight requesting three loaves of bread. Though it was a very inconvenient time for this type of transaction, the man proceeded to grant his neighbor’s request in response to his importunity or persistence in solicitation.

Just as this man was persistent in his request for bread at a very difficult time, so says Jesus must we be in our petitions before God.

So many people stop at the Lord’s prayer in their talk with God. But the lesson goes way beyond that. Those who continue reading discover the true way to receive from the Lord anything we could possibly need.

Ask. Be vocal. Keep asking.

Seek. Be determined. To seek is to go in search or quest of; to try to find or discover by searching or questioning. Study the matter out until understanding comes.

Knock. Require a response. Get God to move to the door for you. He is a door opener. Of the kind that his open doors no one can shut.

You will receive, you will find, and you will move through the open door. -PJF-
