Recently, I went about creating some wall posters with varied writings. Some were scriptures I wanted to have before me to read and declare throughout the day. Then I had others with some words of wisdom and inspiration of my own. I want to share one of those with you today.
This one has three short sentences upon which I will elaborate.
1. Never give up.
2. Sometimes give in.
We have covered these items in the previous weeks. You can read those articles in our blog at www.purposeministriesinc.com.
Today we will conclude with the remaining items in the third important thing.
In review:
3. Always give out.
The Scriptures declare:
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38.
And again:
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6.
Paul was in agreement with Jesus.
Giving is necessary. Giving is profitable. Without worrying too much about the obvious benefits of giving, we want to just deal with act of giving.
The injunction is to give. The classic admonition is to give of our time, our treasure, and our talent.
That covers a lot of territory. I would like to offer some specific direction for your ministry of giving. Let us consider the five D’s of giving.
1. Donate Grace.
2. Dispense Mercy.
Now, we continue with today’s study:
3. Distribute Finances.
Tithing to your church (10% of income) should be at the top of all your monetary disbursements.
Next should be offerings. These are usually directed in support of other ministries, missionaries, and kingdom related activities.
In our stewardship responsibilities we must also include alms. This includes donating to outreach ministries that feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless, and clothing for the ragged.
Not to be ignored are those who stand at the intersections with their scrawled “Help” sign.
4. Dish Out Love.
What the world needs now is love. There are so many hurting, grieving, lonely, scared folks all around us. The one thing they all want is just a little bit of love. Love can be given in the form of a word fitly spoken, a smile, an embrace. Though we may be distanced and muzzled by the decrees of those who ignore their own impositions we must always strive to bring God’s love to the saint and the sinner. And do not forget those under your roof. They also need love. And, you make yourself available to be loved too. Beloved, let us love one another.
5. Do It Cheerfully.
Let all our giving be cheerful giving. For God loves a cheerful giver.
Smile. -PJF-
