A few years ago I walked into work and said hello to everyone, like I normally do. They were all a little confused to see me, so I asked what's up? This is what they said, "It's Good Friday. Shouldn't you be at a service or whatever you pastors do on this day? What are you doing here?"
I started laughing, I couldn't help it. So many responses came to my mind, but I said, “What happened this day almost two thousand years ago was terrible and worth remembering, no doubt, but what happened three days later, now that was something worth celebrating!” Then I said, “Have a great shift everyone and Happy Good Friday!”
I’m not sure what my coworkers were expecting me to say that day. Was I supposed to be upset because I couldn’t get the day off to mourn the death of my Lord and Savior? I don’t know.
That day was a difficult day for Jesus, his followers, even his mother. Watching the events that took place that day must have been horrifying. It wasn’t “good” at all. It was terrible! But… three days later everything changed!
There is nothing to mourn. There is nothing to be sad about. This is a time of celebration! We rejoice in the death AND resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Glory to God, Jesus is alive! -SAF-
