Today we had the responsibility of resetting our clocks to “spring forward” into Daylight Savings Time. Although we initially lose an hour, we begin to enjoy the light of day a few hours longer. While it is a controversy to many, I rather like the idea of sunny evening hours. It is a cheerier time, much more can be accomplished, and we don’t feel like shutting ourselves in at home because of the darkness. I like leaving our services while it is still day.
I am reminded of the words of Jesus concerning the matter. In John 9:4
He declares: I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. I trust we will avail ourselves of the longer days. It’s ok to enjoy different recreational activities, to go in pursuit of other business which the early nights may prevent us.
I’d like to provoke you toward something superior. Hebrews 10:24,25 reminds us:
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Make every effort to keep your appointment with God every Sunday at 5 pm. Don’t allow anyone else to interrupt your schedule. Be aware of the devil’s devices to discourage you from your weekly interaction with the Holy Spirit.
There is another day approaching. Our consistent entry into the house
of God will be a buttress to outside stresses and pressures. Let us be
ever vigilant to give no place to the devil on these bright and sunny Sunday evenings.
And don’t forget to continue in prayer even when everything is well.
