February is both positive and negative. The shortness of it gives you less time to accomplish what you normally do in the longer months. However those who get paid early in the month get their money sooner in March. The utility and light bill will be smaller in February but the bills will come up faster. The 2 or 3 day difference that February drops on us could have a hardship factor attached to it. Or we could see it as a blessing.
Many things in life are that way. Some of life’s major issues could turn out to lead us toward greater progress in the long run. The loss of a job would appear as a disaster at any time, yet the next opportunity may be a much happier situation.
The apostle Paul thought about that and addressed the matter.
Romans 8:28 assures us:
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
One of the benefits of being a believer is that everything will be OK! Now some folks who are not in relationship with Jesus want to appropriate this scripture in their life. They depend on some kind of good karma coming their way in spite of their Godless living and disregard for the Lord or his church. Many times they think the good thing will come around to them because of some good deed they may have done or they think themselves as not really being so bad a person and so they believe the God they ignore will suddenly burst upon them with great favor and turn their mess around.
Sorry Charlie, like the old tuna TV ad used to say. It does not work that way.
A rereading of the scripture is required here.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
There are two significant requirements for this scripture to work in one’s favor.
One is love. Now the word love here is not the same as loving chocolate or ice cream. The Greek word is agapao (agape).
Translated to English it means the following:
When used of love to God or Christ, the word involves the idea of affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, grateful recognition of benefits received.
It denotes to take pleasure in a thing, prize it above other things, be unwilling to abandon it or do without it.
There is an unequaled level of intensity inherent in this unique affection.
The second factor is purpose. Let us define it:
The reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc; An intended or desired result; end; aim; goal.
You and I were called by God to engage in his purpose. His purpose is why we exist, why we were made, and for his intended or desired result.
Now for those who walk in that love and are so committed to his purpose, this scripture is operative, functional, and to be appropriated and claimed. But I think it leaves some folks out. Again, sorry Charlie.
The good news is that most of you who read this, qualify for the blessing of having God work in your favor. Grace and mercy because of the work of Christ on the cross which we believe in, are bestowed upon us to compensate for our imperfect affection. We are in the program. Praise the Lord!
So at this time continue in your trust in Him. He has a way of working things to our good. Cheer up!
