14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Esther 4:14
Noah was positioned to save his family.
Rahab was appointed to save her family.
Cornelius paved the way for the saving of his family.
Lydia was instrumental in the saving of her family.
In today’s scripture reading, Esther is in a place where she has the potential to save not only the Jewish people, which is what is often preached about, but Mordecai points to the fact that if she does not act it is her family that will perish.
Saving the family should be at the heart of every believer.
Jesus said what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul. I submit to you that the soul is not only the eternal part of the man who gains the whole world. But it extends to that which he has dearest to him, and that is his family. The sons and daughters he has procreated out of his own soul are of greater value than all the wealth of the world.
Many a rich man has been unable to save a child from his or her self-destructive lifestyle.
Unfortunately it is true for believers too. So many of our family are lost and on their way to hell.
Preachers are not exempt from having a wayward child. They may preach to the whole world and have a child in rebellion against God.
So Esther, you are a Queen living in the lap of luxury in the palace. Enjoy it but understand there is a duty placed upon you because you are in that role that goes beyond the honor and prestige of your royalty.
It is the simple task of the saving of your kinfolk.
God will see to it that the nation is not exterminated. He will save
them by other means if necessary. But your family, Esther, requires
your intervention to be delivered from destruction.
Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as
this?
To be honest I have never heard an Esther sermon on this detail. I have never preached on Esther and seen this aspect of Esther’s intervention.
As believers we have been brought into the kingdom probably not to save a nation. But if we are in the kingdom just having a good time ourselves we are missing an important aspect of kingdom responsibility. And that is the lost, especially those of our own household. Let us not gain the world and lose our soul.
Pray for those unsaved family members. Share a word whenever opportunity arises. Offer to pray with them to accept Christ as you minister to them. Situations will arise that places them in more of a receptive mode. Be alert for that and make the altar call. Invite them to church again. When the invitation is given to go forward for prayer offer to go with them for whatever need they may have. Many who have come forward for prayer for different needs are drawn in by the Holy Spirit to be saved.
