I was listening to our four year old daughter talk about a scene in Toy Story 4 the other day. She was using big hand motions and laughing as she talked about the interactions of the characters. She said, “Forky is so silly mommy. He keeps jumping in the trash can and Woody has to go get him. He is so silly. I don’t know why he keeps doing that, silly Forky. Why does he keep throwing himself in the trash?”
Forky is the spork pictured here. He was made into a toy friend by the little girl, Bonnie, during arts and crafts time at school. He was made from… trash. Forky kept throwing himself away because he did not know that he was no longer trash. He did not understand that he was now a toy, and not just any old toy, but Bonnie’s favorite toy.
As I explained this to our little girl, I felt the Holy Ghost say that there are so many people that feel the same way as Forky. They keep throwing themselves into the trash can because they do not understand that they are valuable. They do not understand their worth.
Listen, you are not trash. You were not an afterthought. You were carefully crafted by God, the creator of all. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Stop thinking of yourself as something less than special. God loves you and sent his only begotten son, Jesus, to die on the cross for you. He loves you with an everlasting love and we love you too. -SAF-
