I remember drawing when I was a child. My house drawings had pointed rooftops over a rectangular building. There was a little chimney on top with a “curly cue” for smoke. Then for grass there was a strip of green at the bottom as well as a strip of blue at the top for the sky. And of course, the big yellow sun in the top corner of the page.

Those were my artistic skills in a nutshell. Drawing was not my favorite. I did not like to draw, because I could not draw.

Recently, our daughter, asked me to draw some things for her. My initial response was, “I can’t draw.” But her persistent “please mommy,” I could not refuse. She asked me to draw her a teddy bear, a lion, and an elephant. When I was done, I was surprised how good it looked. She was so excited to see my drawings. She thought they were the best!

We talk ourselves out of so many things for a variety of reasons. We are not good at it. No one thinks I can do it. I cannot afford it.

I did something that I had convinced myself I could not do. It was a small victory, but a victory, nonetheless. I challenge you to do something you thought you could not do. -SAF-
